Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants

 


Overview
The project we implemented for Kimpton Hotels is their EarthCare Environmental Initiative. This initiative is in progress in all 39 of Kimpton’s boutique hotel properties and in all 29 Kimpton restaurant properties. The project has been in progress since 2003, and encompasses change at all levels of the organization, including staff training, evaluation and implementation of best practices, a coordinated marketing campaign, and impact measurement.

Impacts/Results Achieved
Since implementing the EarthCare Initiative, Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants have:
      - Saved more than 91,000 gallons of water, 123 million BTUs of energy, and 214 trees through their use of recycled content paper products.
      - Avoided using more than 48,000 gallons of toxic cleaners through their choice of environmentally friendly cleaning products.
      - Saved more than 23 acres of farmland from harmful pesticides and herbicides through their use of organic and shade grown coffees.
      - Diverted the equivalent of nearly 5 Olympic swimming pools through their recycling efforts.
      - Conserved the equivalent of more than 200 Olympic swimming pools worth of water through the installation of low-flow water fixtures.

Destination Hotels and Resorts


Overview
Business Evolution Consutling is working in partnership with Destination Hotels and Resorts to support the creation, implementation, and roll out of DH&R's environmental program. This comprehensive program encompasses all their hotels, resorts, and condo properties as well as food services and spas. Project scope includes a current assessment of activities/opportunities, program development, and communication strategy, both internally and externally.

National Restaurant Association

Overview
The National Restaurant Association is the leading business association in the restaurant industry and represents over 300,000 restaurant establishments.  Restaurants represent one of the world's largest industries...$511 Billion in sales in 2005, employing 12.5 Million people in 925,000 locations. This amounts to over 70 Billion meal/snack occasions served each year. Of course, the byproduct of this industry is not only happy bellies. This industry also requires significant power and materials to serve its customers, presenting compelling opportunities to create efficiencies in energy and water use and food and waste management.

Therefore, we are working with the National Restaurant Association to explore sustainable practices across all restaurant segments - covering Fast Food, Fast Casual, Cafeteria Service, and Full Service. Additionally, we are undertaking a review of the Bio-diesel industry, focusing on key players and challenges surrounding this powerful alternative energy source that lies within virtually every restaurant. There is a compelling opportunity for the United States and restaurants to tap into this potential alternative energy source amounting to almost 300,000,000 gallons of bio-fuel.
