Results That Speak for Themselves

Business Evolution Consulting has developed environmental programs for over 70 businesses. Following are just a few of the results from those engagements, organized by benefit area.

Increased Revenue

  • One of the nation's largest NGO environmental groups booked $70,000 in rooms, food, and beverage at retail rates due to the hotel's environmental program.
  • “I LOVE the fact that Kimpton Hotels are environmental responsible. This is the most important reason that I stay at your hotels. Thank you for continuing to be a leader in the hotel industry for being Green.”

Operational Cost Savings

  • The Hotel Allegro saved $21,000/year by implementing a cardboard recycling program.
  • Serrano Hotel in San Francisco saved $800/year by installing motion sensors in low occupancy storage areas.
  • The Monaco Hotel earned $3,000 in recycling awards and saved over $18,000 in waste management costs through its comprehensive recycling program.

Healthier Work Environment

  • One major US hotel client had at least one complaint per day from housekeepers related to rashes, headaches, and pains from standard cleaning products. Within one week of introducing the eco-friendly, non-toxic versions, complaints declined to zero and productivity and employee satisfaction increased over 15%.

Inspired Employees and Customers

Engaging employees in an environmental program enables them to take ownership of it, identify solutions within their hotels, and contribute to the success of the program. Following are changes that hotels have made as a direct result of employee suggestions.

  • The Allegro Hotel in Chicago now returns shirt and coat hangers to their dry cleaner.
  • The Alexis Hotel in Seattle has engaged their linen companies to reduce the use of dry cleaning plastic wrap.
  • The Monaco Hotel in Portland has eliminated unnecessary phone books.
  • The Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco now uses eco-friendly carpet cleaning products.

“One big reason I would return to this hotel is the fact that the Serrano was very eco-friendly. I really appreciate the effort it takes to help the environment while trying to run a business.” – Serrano Hotel, Dec. 2006

Improved Branding and Public Relations

  • In 2006 the Chicago Tribune highlighted the Vintage Park Hotel for its hybrid vehicle parking discount program.
  • In August 2006 the Washington Post cited the Hotel Madera ( Washington D.C. ) for its ecologically sound practices.
  • In July 2006 USA Today featured Kimpton's “EarthCare” program in an article about green businesses.
  • In November 2006 National Geographic Traveler magazine gave its GeoTourism award for Kimpton Hotel's EarthCare program. It was featured on their website, as well as by the Travel Industry Association (725,000 subscribers)
  • Every June and July, Kimpton Hotels across the country host fundraising events for The Trust For Public Land , which bring together over 10,000 people to support this environmental cause. In two cities the local television stations broadcasted live from the events, providing significant mainstream media exposure and new business in excess of $30,000.
